These paintings are inspired by time spent by a wonderful estuary on the Isle of Skye, which changed amazingly in varying weathers and light and which was a visiting place of a variety of wild creatures such as sea otters, herons and oyster catchers.
I became interested by the 'bands' of sea and land, which appeared almost as stripes or passages in the view, an effect intensified by cloud and mist.
I was also interested by the sense of space on the beach, with figures moving towards the horizon as small but apparent dots, dissolving into the scene. I have worked to capture the feeling of the wildness of the place and the sense of connection and separation to nature and to/from human connections.
I have also included some of my watercolour sketches.
